When people are born in the world, their gender has been decided, and their parents would treat them in the way which also depends on the gender. For instance, parents would provide robots to boys and dolls to girls; they also would remind boys that don't cry easily and ask girls to keep elegant. These are the rules which the society frames for people until now, although the society seems much open than before and gays and lesbians are much not afraid of confessing their sexual orientation, they are still the minority. The sex is one obvious aspect of the duality, there are lots of phenomenons of the duality, the good and bad, the beauty and ugly, the light and dark, even the birth and death. In one society, the most common duality is the female and male, Antigone is in this condition and wants to define herself. In the beginning of Antigone, chorus said: 「That thin little creature…」 (Antigone. P.9) represents that Antigone's characteristic of the female. Moreover, from page 25 to 27, Antigone asks Haemon whether he really loves her as a woman to be loved, during these pages, we discovered they shows other Antigone's characteristics of the female. However, despite of the female aspect, Antigone also shows us Antigone's male characteristics, chorus said: 「she is about to rise alone against Creon…」 (Antigone. P.9) In the ancient period, 『alone' is a very special word, because if a woman stays alone, it meant that shy may do something filthily; on the other hand, a man who is alone stands for he is brave enough to face challenges, the hero in the story is usually alone to against the evil. Furthermore, Antigone says: 「…Haven't I spent my life cursing the fact that I was a girl?」 (Antigone. P.21) This represents that she doesn't want to be a woman, and wants other people agree with her male characteristics. Then, in the page 46 that Antigone shows her respect towards her father and told Creon that how she is proud of her father. These facts reflect the other aspect of Antigone's heart. Nevertheless, in the end of the story, Antigone is suicide. In the ancient Western, person who is suicide can't return to the heaven, as a result, Antigone can't back to the heaven. What's important is: the heaven is a product from the patriarchism. The reason why Antigone suicides means that she doesn't agree with the patriarchism, the action of her suicide is her indirect method to react against this ism. Therefore, this drama also could be regarded as a process about Antigone defines herself and searches for someone agrees with her idea. Another reason why Antigone so thirst for getting the identification from other people is because her identification in the family is so chaotic that there is no word can give her a right appellation, she doesn't know why her mother is equal to her aunt and her grand mother at the same time. The chaos makes she pursue the identification in the drama, but finally she discovers that there is no appropriate position in this society for her. We regarded that Antigone is not only dead since suicide but also because of she can't bear the conflict in her mind.
Although we considered that Antigone is dead for the conflict, we can't ignore her self-conscious's importance. When the characters in the drama are concerned about their existence, there are two people get self-consciousness, Antigone and Creon. When Creon faced the decision about ruling the country, he understood that he has to bear the responsibility and get rid of some his freedom. Existentialism directs a way of self-consciousness. Creon understands his position and responsibility then face them with the courage. When he bears these burdens, meanwhile, he also overcomes himself. For Creon, he has foreseen the end of Antigone if she didn't stop what she did. Because Creon discovers that Antigone is the reflection of himself, Antigone reflects what he has sealed in his deep heart. As a result, he wants to warn Antigone that she must stop, he even expresses Antigone what is the 『true' happiness in his mind, but that happiness is what Creon regards, not the way Antigone wants. For Angitone, she is self-conscious to foresee her life if she follows what Creon says. The happiest time in her life is her childhood. She doesn't agree with Creon that she doesn't want to just be someone's wife and lives in the room till her death.
